Now I don't know much about them but my mate has an EVO 6.5 and loves it. Now I know it will be a fair bit different from and EVO 6 but would just like to know some common problems in them and some things to look out for.
The one i'm looking at is a 1995 with a VR4 2l 4g63 turbo engine in it, is that a common engine swap or abit weird? How reliable are they? How do they go about holding some power?
So let me know what your thoughts are?

The 4g63t evo engines are very tough and i dont think they have and real common problems maybe the gearbox syncros in earlier models (evo 1-3, 1.8L Gsr) are pretty average but you will get that with age in any car.
I sold my evo powered mirage for a s13 and regret the change, i want to go back to a mitsubishi.
Vr4 and gsr with evo conversions are pretty common although i dont think many people are doing it these days as the engines are getting quite expensive if you can find a good one ( evo 1-3)
There's not a heap of difference between the 6 and the 6.5 the tommie has titanium wheels in the turbo for faster spooling, a bit more boost and mostly cosmetic differences.

very tough motors, very easy to get power out of
as long as you look after them, they are very reliable
definately a great change

That engine swap is abit weird seeing vr4's with the 4g's finished in 91, maybe of an early evo but putting a vr4 engine in a evo6 is like taking a back step.
I went from a s13 to vr4 galant and love it, the s13 obviously is a different type of fun where as the vr4 has its own fun and uniqueness about it.

lol, what are you on about? I don't think you read his post correctly... and besides, it's not possible to put an early model engine in a later model Evo. From the Evo 4, the engine was turned 180 degrees, therefore the gearbox was on the other side (for better weight distribution I believe)...

I think it would be the best move you ever made. I personally own an Evo 7 RS, slightly lighter then the GSR model but I must say they are a dream car. Mine is daily driven and never had any issues, I do regular oil changes every 4-5,000 km's. Make sure my diff oils are changed every 10-15,000kms and your laughing. Really easy car to drive in all conditions, I've had mine in snow earlier this year and I must say couldnt be safer in another car lol.
You can pick a nice JDM Tommi Makinen for around $25,000 to $30,000, and they have a nicer interior then the GSR, a 10.5cm rear housing on the turbo instead of the 9.8 on GSR's.
Little bit more stick and rawness to the Tommi. Also you get some nice Enkei 17x7.5 wheels.
Good Luck
